Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato has condemned the alleged call from amaphela taxi operators in Nyanga to kill traffic officials.

In a statement MEC Plato said the City of Cape Town was made aware of these alleged threats after a meeting was held this week between amaphela taxi operators where they resolved to kill at least three traffic officers during the course of Thursday.

Ministerial Spokesperson Ewald Botha said this needs to be investigated with extreme urgency and if true be acted upon immediately.

Botha said the issue is already raised to the attention of the Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Arno Lamoer. We called on the SA Police Service to ensure the safety of public law enforcement officials and to investigate these serious allegations.
