The United States Embassy in South Africa has condemned the attack against foreign-nationals in the country.

In a statement the embassy has urged individuals involved to refrain from all forms of violence, exercise restraint and rely on peaceful dialog to resolve any differences.

Five people have been killed in recent xenophobic attacks which started in Durban and has now spread to Gauteng’s East Rand.

The Embassy’s Joy Peters said the US Embassy joined the South African government and other society leaders in condemning the violence against foreigners taking place in Kwa Zulu Natal.

“We remain concerned about the loss of innocent lives, destruction of property and impact on families and communities.” Peters added.
