The City of Cape Town has deployed the South African Police Service to the CBD as the South African Municipal Workers Union will be marching today.

Samwu members have been on strike since Monday following what it deems unresolved grievances with the City including the unfair dismissal of its members and the way they have been treated by the City.

City’s mayoral committee member for corporate services, Councillor Xanthea Limberg said Samwu leadership agreed to abide by the picketing rules but thus far their members have chosen to transgress these rules and the city strongly condemns the violence displayed by Samwu since the strike begun and all acts of vandalism and acts of intimidation will be handled and the city will be investigating it.

Limberg said we would like to urge members of the public to immediately report any acts of intimidation, violence and vandalism to the South African Police Services.
