City of Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille together
with Mayoral Committee Member for Transport Brett Herron officially opened the
MyCiTi N2 Express Mitchells Plain station on Monday.
Mayor De Lille said the City
is committed to providing residents with quality, reliable and affordable
transport services and infrastructure.
Mayor Spokesperson Zara
Nicholson said construction started in January last year and the work was completed
in May.
Nicholson said during the
construction phase the city also employed 55 EPWP workers from Mitchells Plain and another 128 EPWP from
Khayelitsha, who were employed for the civil work at the various route stops.
Nicholson added that in total
the city’s capital investment for the N2 Express amounts to approximately R190
million, for the construction of the station itself and buses.
