City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member JP Smith said the City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre and other relevant departments are on high alert and ready to respond to any emergencies that may arise as a result of bad heavy weather.

Smith said, we are working closely with communities and other City departments to, as far as possible, ensure that the residents whose homes are vulnerable to flooding are cared for.

Smith said we ask for the public to during bad weather stay away from beachfronts and to be careful on the roads, we see very significant road accidents during wet weather conditions and motorists need to drive sensibly and slow down.

Smith added that we also ask for the public to deal with any water pooling on their plot as best as can, prevent water pooling where possible and alert the city as soon as they see a significant situation appear.
