Deputy President Cyril
Ramaphosa was reappointed as to continue with his facilitation work for peace
and stability in the Kingdom of Lesotho, at the SADC Double Troika Summit held
in Pretoria on Friday.
Ramaphosa was sent to Lesotho
by President Jacob Zuma following the killing of Lieutenant General Maaparankoe
Mahao and the fleeing of several opposition leaders.
Deputy President's Spokesperson
Ronnie Mamoepa said, an oversight committee which will act as an early warning mechanism
in the event of science and instability will be established and intervene in
consultation with the facilitator Deputy President Ramaphosa.
Mamoepa said His renewal of
the facilitation mandate also came across the background of tabling and
endorsement of Deputy President Ramaphosa’s final report on his facilitation
process to restore peace and stability in Lesotho in 2014.
“His facilitation process
culminated in the signing of the Maseru facilitation Court. The signing of
these agreements helps create a climate conducive for the re-opening of the
Lesotho parliament in 2014. The stabilisation of the security situation and the
holding of democratic elections early this year which has had incredible by
electoral observer mission,” Mamoepa added.
