The Democratic Alliance has
once again called on President Jacob Zuma to suspend National Police
Commissioner Riah Phiyega.
President Zuma wrote to Phiyega,
informing her of his intention to institute an inquiry into the allegations of
misconduct and or lack of fitness for the office.
Last week Phiyega told
President Zuma she needs more time to respond to his letter warning her of a
possible suspension.
DA MP Dianer Kohler Barnard
said she is playing games with the President and the Country and this is not a
new ploy.
“The DA does not take any
pleasure in Ms Phiyega’s long list of failings because it is ultimately means
that ordinary South Africans of one have to live in fear while violent crime,
under her watch, has risen in the last three years and sees approximately 47
people murdered each day.
Her failure to arrest these
problems, together with her role in the Marikana Massacre, are reason enough
for her to be fired without delay,” Barnard added.
