The Road Traffic Management Corporation says it hopes the road death toll will remain low this Easter long weekend.

In 2015, 121 people were killed by the end of Good Friday; however in 2016 the figure stands at about 45.

Meanwhile, the traffic flow has returned to normal on the R71 and N1leading to the Zion Christian Church headquarters outside Polokwane in Limpopo.

Thousands of the church members have arrived at the church for their Easter pilgrimage.

Traffic is now flowing normally on the province's major routes.

Authorities say they are now focusing their attention to villages and townships where many of the motorists are.

Heavy traffic volumes are expected in the afternoon as many ZCC worshippers will still be arriving for the Sunday's main sermon.

Motorists are urged to always obey the traffic rules to help government clamp down on road fatalities.
