Eskom suspended load shedding on Sunday due to the recovery of generation capacity.
Eskom implemented rolling black outs on Friday, which was set to last until Sunday evening, after being ‘’exacerbated by the shutdown of
generating units at its Medupi power station. This was caused by an inability
to get coal into the units due to heavy rains in the region.’’
In a statement, the ailing power utility said on
Sunday that its teams returned four generation units to service at the Medupi
Power Station as coal constraints improved.
''Another two units also returned to service,
since Friday, while the emergency generation reserves have sufficiently
recovered.''
Eskom warned that the risk of load shedding
during this period remains, ‘’elevated’’, due to ongoing maintenance.
It urged consumers to use electricity sparingly
as the system remains unpredictable and vulnerable.
