Eight suspected are set to appear Blue Downs Magistrates Court on Wednesday for cable theft.
According to Police Investigations
reveal that the suspects highjacked a truck transporting Eskom electrical
overhead cables, with an estimated street value of around R2.5 million, in
Piketbergin May.
The men, between the ages of
29 and 49-years-old, were found following a joint operation between the
police's K9 Unit and Flying Squad on Monday. They face charges for possession
of stolen goods and the contravention of the second hand goods act.
SAPS spokesperson, Ndakhe
Gwala, said that detectives recovered the stolen cables in Cape Town.” Police searched
the premises and found six rolls of aluminium cables on the premises”, said Gwala.
