Mercedes-Benz recalls over 13 000 vehicles in SA

Mercedes-Benz are recalling over 13 000 vehicles sold and manufactured in South Africa between 2006 and 2019, due to possible brake failure concerns as a result of rusting on the housing joining points.

Almost a million vehicles worldwide were recalled because of a potential problem with the braking system.

The National Consumer Commission has urged consumers in possession of Mercedes-Benz model series 164 and R-Class model series 251 to return the vehicles to the supplier.

The commission's Thezi Mabuza says 13 159 vehicles are affected in South Africa.

“We understand that the defect may lead to a possible brake failure which may lead to accidents and injuries. The affected models were manufactured between 2006 and 2019. We urge consumers not to drive these vehicles but contact the manufacturer for more details.’’

To confirm the affected VIN Numbers, consumers are advised to contact Mercedes-Benz South Africa call centre number: 0800 133 355.
