Eskom has reduced the load shedding stage to Stage 3 between 05:00 -16:00 on both Wednesday and Thursday.
The power utility initially implemented Stage 4
between these times.
In a statement, the ailing parastatal said that
a unit each at Arnot, Camden and Kusile power stations tripped or were taken
offline for repairs since Monday evening, while a unit each at Kusile and
Kendal power stations were returned to service.
Eskom added that between 16:00 and 00:00 on
both days loadshedding will be implemented at Stage 4.
“Eskom anticipates lower stages of loadshedding
to be implemented through the weekend as some units return to service. Should
anything change in the intervening period, Eskom will communicate and implement
any changes as may be necessary.”
“As the generation capacity shortages persist
over the next few weeks, loadshedding will continue to be implemented at
various stages. Eskom cautions the public that it will still take a few weeks
for the power generation system to recover.”
The power utility urged consumers to continue using
electricity sparingly.
“Eskom would like to remind the public that l
the national grid. Loadshedding is implemented only as a last resort to protect
We therefore urge all South Africans to continue using electricity sparingly
especially during these uncertain times on the power system,” it said.
The City of Cape Town announced that it will implement various stages throughout the day.
