Over 200 suspects arrested for various crimes

The City of Cape Town has reportedly seen a decrease in interpersonal violence, domestic violence cases and motor vehicle accidents recorded by our Public Emergency Communication Centre over the past week.

The city’s official arrested over 207 suspects for various crimes in the city during the period. Metro police handed out 74 662 fines during weekly enforcement operations.

The city’s Emergency Communication Centre received over one-thousand-500 calls this past weekend.

The City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Safety, JP Smith, says there was also a decrease in the number of road accidents.

Officers confiscated 75 tik bankies, 40 grams tik, 20 half mandrax tablets, 10 mandrax tablets and cash to the value of R2 290, 00. The three suspects aged 34, 35 and 54 were arrested and detained at Mitchells Plain South African Police Service (SAPS).

On Friday, arrested two suspects for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. A 21 year old man was arrested in Lentegeur, after he ran when he spotted a police vehicle, patrolling the area was approaching. Officers pursued and apprehended the suspect, found with a CZ 9mm pistol fully loaded with 16  9mm live rounds of ammunition was found on his person.

A 22 year old suspect was arrested following a tipoff. Officers recovered 25  7.65mm rounds of ammunition hidden in an electricity box in the kitchen. The suspect was arrested for the unlawful possession of ammunition and detained at Philippi SAPS.
