The Hawks in the Western Cape has made yet another arrest in connection with the murder of Loyiso Nkohla Mabandla.
Mabandla was killed in a hail of bullets at Philippi
railway station on 17 April 2023. It is believed that Mabandla was targeted for
his role in talks to clear Metrorail's Central Line, where families had built
their homes.
According to the Hawks’ spokesperson in the Western Cape,
Siyabulela Vukubi, the second suspect, a 38-year-old, was traced and arrested in Katlehong, Tshwane on Monday.
Mziyanda Mdlungu has since appeared at the Pretoria Central
Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, and will be transferred to a Cape Town prision,
where he is expected to make another court appearance at the Athlone
Magistrate's Court on Monday, 20 November 2023.
Meanwhile, the case against the first suspect, 38-year-old Zukisa Tshabile, has been postponed for further investigation, to 15 February
2024, after he appeared in the Athlone Magistrate's Court on 6 November 2023.
Tshabile decided to abandon his bail application.
