The Hawks has made another breakthrough in resolving the murder of Loyiso Nhokla Mabandla.
Spokesperson, Siyabulela Vukubi, said officers arrested a third suspect, a 39-year-old in Peddie in the Eastern Cape, on Thursday.
‘’The arrest was effected by Serious Organised Crime
Investigation team on 16 November 2023. The suspect is expected to appear in
transit in the East London Magistrates’ Court on 17 November 2023,’’ said
Lieutenant
Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi.
Mabandla was killed in a hail of bullets at Philippi
railway station in April this year. It is believed that Mabandla was targeted
for his role in talks to clear Metrorail's Central Line, where families had
built their homes.
The case against the first suspect, 38-year-old Zukisa Tshabile, has been postponed for further investigation, to 15 February 2024.
Tshabile decided to abandon his bail application.
Meanwhile, Mziyanda Mdlungu appeared at the Pretoria
Central Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, and will be transferred to a Cape Town prison,
where he is expected to make another court appearance at the Athlone
Magistrate's Court on Monday.
