The bus was travelling from Kuyasa in Khayelitsha to the Civic Centre station in the CBD.

''A MyCiTi bus travelling along the N2 highway inbound had to pull over at the Borcherds Quarry off-ramp at around 7.50 this morning due to a fire that started at the back of the vehicle," said Rob Quintas, Mayco Member for Urban Mobility.

Quintas says the passengers and the driver were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.

"Once this investigation is concluded, the city's insurance specialists, the bus manufacturer and the operating company will convene to establish a process on the way forward. While the cause of the incident remains unknown at this stage, residents and commuters are assured that we will take appropriate action once all the reports are submitted."
