Minor amongst three killed in Fisantekraal fire

Three persons died in a fire in Fisantekraal in the early hours of Monday.

The City’s Fire & Rescue Service Spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, said firefighters were alerted of a structure alight just before 1a.m in Saartjie Baartman Street.

‘’ At approximately 00:50 an emergency call was received of a structure alight in Saartjie Baartman Street. Crews from Durbanville, Kraaifontein and Atlantis were dispatched to the scene.’’

Carelse said the blaze was extinguished by 02:30. He added that the fire destroyed six informal structures and left several persons displaced.

‘’Sadly a man, woman and a minor (gender unknown), who sustained fatal burn wounds, were discovered under the debris. Furthermore, an adult male sustained 30% burn wounds and was treated and transported to a nearby medical facility,’’ said Jermaine Carelse, the City’s Fire & Rescue Service Spokesperson.

The cause of the fire is unknown pending an investigation from the South African Police Service.
