Led by the South African Police Service (SAPS), the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), and the State Security Agency (SSA), NATJOINTS has conducted extensive planning and coordination to prevent crime and disruptions during the elections.

NATJOINTS, along with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), has developed a comprehensive security strategy. This includes high-visibility policing, intelligence gathering, and the readiness to respond to any incidents of violence or criminality. Each province has been assessed, and all are deemed prepared for the elections. "We are confident that the measures that have been put in place are sufficient to ensure that the country’s upcoming general elections proceed without any incidents of crime and disruptions," said the NATJOINTS representative.

The NATJOINTS Coordination Centre, equipped with advanced technology, will start its operations on May 22, providing round-the-clock monitoring and coordination of election-related activities. This centre will be the hub for managing all operations, ensuring swift responses to any potential threats.

Additionally, the NATJOINTS warns against the spread of fake news and urges the public to verify information before sharing it on social media. "We strongly condemn the spreading of fake news, unverified information, rumours or threats as this seeks to cause panic and confusion, and in some instances incite possible violence," stated the spokesperson. The authorities will take action against those spreading false information or inciting violence.

NATJOINTS emphasises the importance of respecting political freedoms, reminding citizens that tampering with campaign materials is illegal and will result in arrests. Recent incidents of vandalism and break-ins at IEC offices are under investigation, with several arrests already made. Law enforcement agencies are prepared to enforce the law strictly, with a zero-tolerance approach towards any form of intimidation, violence, or illegal activities, including the planned shutdown by truck drivers.
