Three people were seriously injured during an explosion at an animal feed mill in Malmesbury in the Western Cape on Monday.
According to Quantum Foods, the explosion also harmed machinery in the area where raw
materials are received. Although the origin of the explosion is yet unknown, at
this point there is no suspicion of foul play.
One of the injured people is in a critical condition in hospital. The Department of Employment and Labour was notified of the occurrence.
According to Spokesperson
for Swartland Municipality Mart-Marie Haasbroek, They confirmed an incident in the region of
Nova Feeds on Bokomo Way, Malmesbury. Fire and rescue services responded, three
people have been seriously injured and are receiving treatment, unconfirmed one
at Tygerberg Burn Unit and two at Swartland Hospital.
“The fire on site has
been extinguished and our teams are double checking for any flare ups before
finishing and withdrawing from site,” said Spokesperson for Swartland
Municipality Mart-Marie Haasbroek.
