The
number of confirmed mpox cases in South Africa has risen to 22, with two
additional cases reported. Despite increased public awareness and intensive
contact tracing efforts, the health department has noted an ongoing rise in the
number of mpox infections in the country.
The
latest cases include a 40-year-old man from Johannesburg who was diagnosed at a
private health facility in Durban over the weekend. Another case was also
detected in KwaZulu-Natal when a patient presented with an mpox-like rash at a
local hospital.
The health department spokesperson, Foster Mohale, stated that contact tracing and monitoring are ongoing in both the Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal provinces to monitor and contain the spread of the virus.
