Man fatally shot metres from his Portland home

A 31-year-old man was shot and killed in Portland, Mitchell’s Plain over the weekend.

Police confirmed to Bush Radio News that the incident occurred on Friday night.

‘’The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Friday night, 23 May 2025, at about 22:30 in Salisbury Street, Portlands, Mitchell’s Plain, where a 31 year old male was shot and fatally wounded are under investigation. Mitchell’s Plain police were called to the crime scene where they found the victim with gunshot wounds to his body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel,’’ said Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Western Cape police spokesperson.

He says the motive for the attack is believed to be gang related and that no arrests has been made as yet. SAPS are probing a case of murder.

Sources told Bush Radio News that Zain Paulse was shot metres in front of his home. It is believed that unknown suspects shot him from a vehicle before fleeing the scene.

The community says lanes contribute to illegal activities and has called again for lanes to be closed.

Bush Radio News last reported a shooting incident in what is dubbed a 'quiet area' in April 2025.
