Bellville Baby abductor appears in court

The mother of an infant who was abducted in Bellville two weeks ago said that she is not sure if the woman accused of the crime was pretending to be three different women.

Kidnapping accused Sameemah Jacobs made her second appearance in the Bellville Magistrates court yesterday. Jacobs was arrested after being found with the baby at her Tafelsig home in Mitchells Plain two days after the infant was abducted.

Anti-kidnapping unit detective David Fortuin told the court that two other women were seemingly involved in the abduction of Imaan Sharmar's newborn baby. Fortuin said that kidnapping accused Jacobs befriended Sharmar during her pregnancy, but also mentioned another woman named Chevon, who told Sharmar she was involved with an NGO which would provide her with support during her pregnancy.

Another woman named Waseemah allegedly texted Sharmar, also offering her assistance with her hospital visits. Sharmar said that she was not sure if all three women were the same person.

Bail hearing will commence when the matter returns to court next week.
