Three suspects appeared in court on Tuesday in Athlone on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping and abduction.
They were arrested by a Metro
Police officer on Sunday morning, after the officer spotted a taxi driver
skipping a red light in Mitchell’s Plain
‘’He conducted a traffic stop,
and while engaging with the driver, a man covered in blood jumped from the
vehicle and collapsed nearby. The driver claimed that the injured man had
broken into his home, adding that the officer immediately handcuffed the driver
and called for backup,’’ said Ruth Solomon, Metro police spokesperson.
‘’While on the radio, two more
men exited the minibus, their hands also covered in blood. The officer
instructed them to stay inside until backup arrived,’’ she added.
The suspects, aged 23, 24 and
27, were detained at Mitchells Plain SAPS – the victim was transported to a
nearby hospital for treatment.
The suspects were remanded in
custody until their bail hearing next week.
