It has been a deadly weekend on South African roads.
Five people were killed in a collision between two vehicles
in Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal, on Sunday morning and one of the vehicles caught
fire during the impact.
Meanwhile, four people were killed in a collision between a
minibus taxi and a light motor vehicle on the R63 between Maqoma and Alice in
the Eastern Cape, on Saturday night. Authorities said the deceased were in the
light motor vehicle while three occupants of the minibus taxi were seriously
injured.
In Cape Town, four people have died and two others were
rushed to hospital after a car they were travelling in, collided into a tree
and later burst into flames on Cecil Morgan Drive in Brackenfell.
Western Cape police confirmed that they are investigating a
culpable homicide case.
‘’Brackenfell police registered a culpable homicide case
following an accident on 2025-08-02 at 18:00… According to reports the motor
vehicle with six occupants collided with a tree in Cecil Morgan Drive. Four of
the occupants were declared deceased on the scene and two were taken to
hospital in critical condition. Investigations continues. The circumstances
surrounding this accident are under investigation,’’ said Captain F.C Van Wyk,
Western Cape police spokesperson.
