Media briefing on the readiness of the convention on the national dialogue.

  On  11 of August 2025, Task Team Chairperson Nkosinathi Biko held a Media briefing on the readiness of the Convention on the National Dialogue, that will take place Friday at the University of South Africa in Pretoria. The National Convention takes place ahead of the National Dialogue at the University of South Africa Main Campus in Pretoria on 15-16 August 2025.

The Convention brings together representatives of government, political parties, civil society, business, labour, traditional leaders, religious leaders, cultural workers, sports organisations, women, youth and community voices, among others to chart a way forward for the commencement of the National Dialogue, outlining roles and responsibilities of all South Africans.

Chairperson Biko explained that every ward in South Africa will become a space for democratic engagement, as it is expected that each of the 4 300 wards will have at least three dialogues. These will be small, accessible dialogues in community halls, schools, churches and open spaces. There will also be thousands of sectoral and theme-based dialogues.

"To ensure that the National Dialogue has real impact, the outcomes framework can focus on radical change, rapid response and rebuilding the nation.An important part on how to institutionalise the outcomes of the National dialogue", he said.

Since embarking on this journey, the Chairperson explained that they have witnessed and received overwhelming support and contributions from many stakeholders which has helped to reduce the costs of the National Convention.

He added that the logistical arrangements for the convention are underway. The university of UNISA has offered to host the event and provide associated goods and services free of charge.

Spokesperson for the National Convention Rev Zwoitwaho Nebutalu said the R700 million that was being reported on was a budget prepared by the PTT.

Spokeperson Nevhutalu added that most of the money was going to fund community dialogues at ward and sectoral levels. He emphasised that no procurement process would be abused.

Spoke person Nkosinathi ensured that despite some organizations withdrawing, the presidency emphasized that the event aims to be inclusive. He added that the National dialogue will continue with or without participation of withdrawn organizations, focusing on engaging South African addressing the country’s challenges.
