Western Cape police has made a breakthrough after they arrested a 23 year old man in connection with a shooting incident that occurred in front of the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s court and left one person dead while another victim was wounded, on Monday.
The incident was captured in a video and circulated widely on social media platforms. The suspect will appear in court on Monday on charges of murder.
Meanwhile, Western Cape police said cordon and search,
lockdown and tracing operations are gaining momentum.
‘’Integrated operational interventions continue at
identified crime hotspots in Cape Town… While the areas afflicted by shooting
incidents are not out of the woods yet, police continue making their presence
felt through targeted deployments. It is envisaged that deployments will remain
in identified areas until calm is restored. An earnest plea is made to
communities to cooperate with police officials deployed in their areas in the
quest to create safer communities,’’ said Brigadier Novela Potelwa, Western
Cape police spokesperson.
Potelwa says a strong contingent of police members from
various units is also monitoring conflict within the taxi industry where
shooting incidents were recorded recently. The Western Cape Government was
granted an interdict by the High Courtt for taxi violence to be halted until
October 9.
