Prayer march calling for safety held in Mitchell’s Plain

Various religious sectors, and community members in Mitchell’s Plain are expected on Sunday afternoon to walk through the streets of the suburb as part of a Prayer march.

The march will begin at Highlands Drive, proceeding down the south-bound lanes of Eisleben Road and concluding at Spine Road. Participants will along the way pause at major intersections for moments of prayer and worship.

The event focuses on themes of thanksgiving and intercession. Mitchell's Plain which has seen a surge in killings in recent days. The Police Ministry, along with other stakeholders was in the area this week to tackle the scourge of crime and gangsterism 

Speaking to Bush Radio News, organiser, Pastor Dalmondt Cookson, says more than 100 churches across various denominations will be part of the march.

‘’ The church has always been the catalyst for change. We need change in our nation. Pain and the killing and the crimes, because there is a vacuum of ethical and spiritual leadership. Yes, the governments are there. Yes, systems are there. But God ultimately has the last say. It is an all-inclusive march. We will not, on the day, antagonize or provoke. We do not want any political banners or any message such as free Palestine or pro-Israel. We are not producing any anti-gang slogans.’’
