Sub-council chairperson Angus McKenzie addresses gun violence on the Cape Flats after another man was shot in Bishop Lavis yesterday

The sub-council chairperson for Bishop Lavis and Bontheuwel, Angus McKenzie, said the continued gun violence in Cape Town was placing the lives of innocent people at risk.

McKenzie was commenting after a man was shot and wounded outside the Bishop Lavis clinic on Monday afternoon.

Police said the 35-year-old victim was shot in the chest and shoulders and ran inside the Bishop Lavis clinic. McKenzie has appealed to anyone who saw the drive-by shooters to contact the police.

 "It is very difficult under the prevailing circumstances that the South African Police Service find themselves under to permanently deploy police in every single corner of these areas. Shootings continue, the internal gang battles are continuing, and it is placing the lives of innocent people at risk, and the only way that we can overcome this is when communities work with the law enforcement agencies in these areas."
