Western Cape police has condemned the murder of three people in Delft during the early hours of Sunday morning. Police said the shooting incident occurred in Sandrivier Street, Leiden, Delft, at approximately 05:30.
‘’Preliminary reports indicate that the victims were
accosted by unknown suspects who opened fire on them before fleeing the scene.
The victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were declared deceased on the
scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is believed to be
gang-related,’’ said Colonel Andrè Traut, Western Cape police spokesperson.
Western Cape Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General
(Advocate) Thembisile Patekile, has denounced the incident in the strongest
possible terms, reaffirming SAPS’s unwavering commitment to dismantling gang
structures and rooting out organised crime that continues to terrorise
communities.
“We will not tolerate ruthless criminals who use intimidation
and violence to assert control over communities. The Anti-Gang Unit, supported
by specialised resources, will intensify operations in Delft and surrounding
areas to restore calm and ensure that those responsible are brought to
justice,” said Lieutenant General Patekile.
More officers has been deployed in the area to stabilise
the area and curb gang-related violence.
