Several informal settlements across Cape Town have been flooded following ongoing severe weather conditions affecting the Western Cape.
Homes in both formal and informal areas have also suffered damage, with strong winds reportedly blowing off roofs in some communities.
Among the affected areas are Monwabisi, Imizamo Yethu, Phola Park, Delft and Tafelsig. The Vygieskraal Canal in Belgravia has also overflowed due to heavy rainfall.
The South African Weather Service says the adverse weather is expected to continue until tomorrow.
The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management spokesperson, Charlotte Powell, says relief efforts are underway, with hot meals being distributed to affected communities.
