On Sunday the 28 June 2026, hundreds of Zimbabwean nationals were camped outside the Zimbabwean consulate offices awaiting their relocation to the Department of Home Affairs Repatriation Centre in Epping.
City of Cape Town in collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs, and the Zimbabwean Consulate are facilitating voluntary repatriation ahead of planned anti-illegal immigration demonstrations on Tuesday, 30 June.
The relocation was organized
following days of large crowds gathering outside the Zimbabwe Consulate, with
many migrants seeking safe and orderly transport home out of fear for their
safety.
The City says they have designated the
Epping facility as the sole official site for processing voluntary
repatriations before individuals are transported to the Beit bridge border
post.
The city says no Zimbabwean
resident wishing to be repatriated should report to the Zimbabwean Consulate.
“The Epping Repatriation Centre will be the sole official site for processing before residents are transported to Beit Bridge. City Safety and Security services, along with traffic and cleansing departments, are on-site to maintain public order, and to assist with relocation” City of Cape Town’s Luthando Tyhalibongo
