Chaos at Swazi border posts
Chaos broke out at a number of border posts between South Africa and Swaziland on Wednesday when Cosatu union members and political activists from Swaziland blockaded the border between the two countries. The trade union federation’s Patrick Craven says police arrested some 80 people during the demonstrations at various border posts. He says eight people were wounded when police opened fire. The protests were against Swazi King Mswati the Third, who is accused of ignoring human rights and political freedom. Several hundred people demonstrated at five border posts. According to the BBC, police say they fired rubber bullets to disperse the crowd at the Matsamo border post. Cosatu has vowed to continue putting pressure on Swaziland to reform.
