Navy's new submarines welcomed in Simon's Town
The first of the South African Navy’s three new submarines has arrived in Simon’s Town. Three patrol boats with high ranking Naval officers and a large media contingent on board met the S101 in False Bay. The submarine was given a traditional Naval welcome when it entered the Simon’s Town Naval base. Ships sounded their horns, a band played and a water cannon created a visual display. The submarine was built and fully equipped in Germany. Its South African crew received their training in Germany and will in future transfer their skills to other members of the SA Navy.
