Northwest soon to decide on rain-ravaged Taung
The North West Portfolio Committees that visited flood-ravaged Taung will recommend to the provincial legislature that the district be declared a national disaster area. Taung was declared a local disaster area three weeks ago after heavy rains caused devastating floods. The disaster left many families in about 12 villages, including the hardest-hit Ntswanahatshe, desperate and cut off from the outside world. According to BuaNews over a thousand houses, of which most were mud-built, were destroyed and roads and bridges were washed away, making the area inaccessible. The cost of reconstruction is expected to run into millions of rands.
