Cape Town police have had success curbing the violence that claimed several lives on the Cape Flats recently and had residents of Hanover Park living in fear. Spokesperson Randall Stoffels said that police arrested a 35-year-old man from Grassy Park on Saturday afternoon in connection with the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Kurt Williams at the Hanover Park Terminus on Friday. A stray bullet wounded a five-year-old girl and the suspect will be charged with murder and attempted murder.
In another development, five Hanover Park men have been arrested during an integrated crime prevention operation at various flash points. The suspects are aged between 23 and 28 and will be charged for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Stoffels says police seized four firearms, including two revolvers and three 9 mm pistols, during the operation. The firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to determine if they had been used in committing crimes.
