Satawu rejects security strike agreement
The trade union Satawu says it was not part of the wage agreement reached between employers and 14 other unions in the industry on Saturday night. Satawu spokesperson Randall Howard says negotiations deadlocked on Saturday and they are disappointed that the other unions later resumed negotiations and announced a settlement. The agreement reportedly secured a wage increase of 24 percent over the next three years, with an average increase of eight percent per year. But Howard says Satawu, which represents half of the workers in the security sector, will stick to its original demand of an 11 percent salary increase and will continue with intended strike action.
