Suspected Cape Town gang leader slain
A suspected gang leader from Hanover Park on the Cape Flats was shot dead and his girlfriend was wounded in a shootout in a Kenilworth parking area yesterday afternoon. Police say two suspects allegedly approached 28-year-old Gavin Atkins, suspected leader of the Americans, while he was sitting in his parked vehicle. Several shots were fired on the couple, hitting Atkins in the chest and wounding his 22-year-old girlfriend. The man died on the scene and his girlfriend was taken to hospital. The suspects fled the scene in a white Bantam Bakkie and are still at large. The name of Atkins’s girlfriend is being withheld.
