Zuma testifies in Zulu
Former deputy president Jacob Zuma has taken the stand in his rape trial in the Johannesburg High Court. He has been called as the defence’s first witness. Zuma denies a charge of rape. Defence attorney Kemp J Kemp informed the court that Zuma would testify in Zulu and that his evidence would be translated into English. He started by relating how he got involved in the liberation struggle and how he knew the father of his rape accuser. Outside the court, Zuma supporters sang the national anthem before the case started. Anti-women-abuse groups are also protesting in support of the accuser.
