Infighting continues in Cape Town City Council
The complicated infighting in the Cape Town Executive Council continues as Executive Mayor Helen Zille finds her election being questioned yet again. Zille is attempting to end City Manager Wallace Mgoqi’s contract, but he says if the contract is found to be legally null and void, it would mean that Zille’s election could also be illegal. Mgoqi said in an interview with the Cape Times that should this prove to be correct, he wants to take the matter to court but wants the council to pay his legal expenses. Multiparty government chief whip and ACDP councillor Vincent Bergh has admitted that there could be some substance in Mgoqi’s stand, but says no court will dismiss the proceedings of the Council’s inaugural meeting.
