Striking security guards take to the streets
By Lunga Guza
As the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union, or SATAWU, the CCMA and the employers resume negotiations late today, thousands of security strikers have embarked on a march to Parliament in the Cape Town CBD. According to eyewitnesses, striking security guards climbed onto trains at Phillipi station this morning, singing songs and carrying sticks and threatening passengers with knob keerries. Another march is currently underway in Kaizegraght. The marchers are expected to hand over a memorandum at 12-o-clock in parliament. The Congress of South African Trade Unions, or Cosatu, has also ensured its support of the march today.
