Two South Africans missing after plane crash in DRC
The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that a South African pilot and his wife were on board the plane that has gone missing in the Democratic Republic of Congo. However, spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa says reports that the wreckage has been found are unfounded. The only passenger on the single-engine Caravan is believed to be either a Canadian or a French citizen. Mamoepa has confirmed that a wreckage has been found at an altitude of four thousand metres on the Mountains of the Moon and this could possibly be that of the missing plane. A UN helicopter could not land in the area and a rescue party will attempt to reach the wreckage on foot.
