Acting SABC chief executive Gab Mampone says the global economic crisis is a major contributing factor to the problems at the public broadcaster. But protestors blamed corruption at the SABC.
It is reported that Mampone received a list of demands at the SABC in Auckland Park from about a thousand demonstrators.
Soap opera stars joined writers, producers and crew demanding that outstanding money be paid and that the SABC board be fired. Mampone said the SABC was committed to settling its outstanding debts.
A smaller protest took place at the corporation’s offices in Sea Point.
