A 78-year-old man died after his vehicle allegedly hit a tree yesterday afternoon.
It is reported that he was traveling along Melkbosstrand Road (which runs between the West Coast Road (R27) and the N7) when it left the road and crashed into the tree.
Emergency services responded, but the man was declared dead on the scene.
“At this stage the cause of the accident is unknown,” said Detective Inspector Willlem Muller “but we are waiting for the outcome of the autopsy that will be held either today or tomorrow.”
Muller said that the deceased’s next of kin has been informed of the accident.
