Several Youth Day rallies are scheduled to take place in the province today.

The Pan Africanist Congress, the ANC Youth League, the Congress of the People Youth Movement and the Worker's World Media Productions are some of the organisations that will be holding different rallies in the Cape Peninsula.

However, the Democratic Alliance Youth says Youth Day celebrations are unnecessary. Spokesperson Khume Ramulifho said celebrating Youth Day is equal to celebrating joblessness and poverty.

Ramulifho added that instead of celebrating, young people were supposed to be looking into ways of improving their lives.

He said one of the major issues that need to be investigated is unemployment.
