The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Department says more than 4 000 people have been affected by the weekend’s heavy downpours.
According to the department it received a number of reports of flooding in more than 17 informal settlements after heavy rainfall on Saturday night.
Disaster Management Spokesperson Charlotte Powell said no residents’ had to be moved.
“Organisations are providing hot meals and blankets to those who have been affected and the housing department is providing floods kits also to the residents,” said Powell
“Disaster Management will also remain on high alert and continue to monitor the weather conditions and will be able to provide assistance if the situation should worsen,” added Powell
