The Television Industry Emergency Coalition which is made up of Independent Producer Organisation, South African Screen Federation, The Producers Alliance, The Actors Coalition, Documentary Filmmakers Association and Creative Workers Union earlier today marched on the SABC in Johannesburg and Sea Point to demand payment for their work.

Support for the march was huge as hundreds of actors, musicians, unions and the general public joined together to take action against SABC.

One of the organisers of the march, Kali Van Der Merwe says they want a fair, transparent and credible public broadcaster.

One of South Africa's most popular actors Denise Newman said they demand respect from the SABC as acting is her only profession because she cannot anything else other than aacting.

Sivuyile Ngesi who plays "Pepe" in Khululeka drama series said that acting is his life and they need to get paid"for what we do.

Chantal Stanfield said that the SABC does not deliver its mandate to entertain and educate.

Tshamano Sebe said he was picketing today because in the past he didn’t take part and yet the problems still remain the same, such as there is not enough respect.

According to Chumani Pan said basically they took part because they feel that there is mismanagement at the SABC and they feel that the SABC has an obligation to the public to be honest and to make sure that they screen programming that is relevant.

Actor Cedwyn Joel said he is part taking in order to represent the actors and thinks that with the number of reshuffles at the SABC, they should aim to get their act together.

At the end of the day protesters handed over a memorandum to SABC Financial Manager Conrad van Schoor on behalf of Regional General Manager, Nomfundo Mpuntsha.
