Debt counselling company Consumer Assist says consumers have flooded debt counsellors' offices nationwide after over-extending
themselves during the holidays.
The company says in a statement that many consumers are now panicking as they face school and university fees and creditors are beginning to call.
Consumer Assist Cape Town manager Leila Beltramo says some people expected bonuses that did not materialise or were far smaller than in previous years.
