Western Cape education MEC Donald Grant says he is pleased that the number of reported vandalism incidents at schools in the province over the holiday has decreased from last year.
The provincial department has to date received 21 reports of burglary and vandalism.
Of the 21 cases reported, five schools suffered major vandalism and burglary damages.
In the previous year, 24 schools suffered damage, while in the 2006/2007 holidays 58 schools were vandalised.
Meanwhile in Mpumalanga police say six more matric pupils have been arrested for their role in leaking matric examination papers in the province.
Spokesperson Leonard Hlathi says the six appeared in court yesterday, along with 13 other suspects previously arrested over the scandal.
