All across the world millions of people welcomed the first day of the New Year.
Massive fireworks displays in capitals of various countries lit up the sky as the first day of 2010 arrived.
In South Africa, President Jacob Zuma made an appeal to South Africans to work together to ensure a successful 2010 Soccer World Cup.
Zuma says South Africans should put the culture of negativity behind them, as 2010 is the most important year for South Africa since 1994.
