The Independent Electoral Commission says it’s satisfied with the number of people who now registered to vote in South Africa.
This, after the IEC held a final voter registration drive last weekend ahead of upcoming local government elections.
Commission chairperson, Brigalia Bam, told a news conference in Centurion that nearly two-point-eight- million people registered or re-registered over the last two registration weekends.
Bam said the final number of people on the voters roll for the municipal elections would be announced once it had been certified.
The IEC had wanted 24 million people on the roll for the upcoming local government elections.
